Tournament Rules

 

  1. Date: May 4, 2024. Rain or shine. No refunds or cancellations due to weather. Tournament hours will begin at sunrise. Tournament weight-in scales will be open from 4:00 to 5:00 pmAnyone not in line to weigh the fish by 5 pm will be disqualified.
  2. This tournament is open to anyone who wishes to participate, amateurs or professional guides. Professional guides are not allowed to fish this tournament carrying passengers for hire.
  3. Every participant or changes to participants as well as entry fees MUST be made before the adjournment of the Captains Meeting. A valid South Carolina salt water fishing license must be presented at the weigh-in.
  4. Species for this tournament are Red Drum, min 15 inches, max 23 inches, Winter Trout (Spotted Sea trout) min 14 inches, Flounder min 16 inches, & Sheepshead min 14 inches or current SCDNR regulations.  All size limits are total lengths (TL/PINCHED TAILS).

  5. Payouts will be based on the two heaviest weights of each of the following: Red Drum, Trout and Flounder. Additionally the greatest number of spots in one square inch on a trout will be eligible for a payout. This does not have to be the same trout that is weighed.
  6. Weigh in for the tournament will be located at W. O. Thomas Jr. Boat Landing, 4354 Bridgeview Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405. Participants can weigh in by boat or on a trailer.
  7. Any youth angler under the age of 17 that catches, lands and weighs in the heaviest legal fish of any species (not just the species of the tournament, but excluding skates, rays and sharks) will win the MCASC Youth Fish Award.  There will be no charge for a youth angler age 12 and under.  Ties will be broken by 1st weighed in.  Youth angler must have caught the fish unassisted.

  8. The boundaries for this tournament will be set as any waters that are legal to fish for every contestant (ocean, bays, rivers, inlets and creeks). Ponds or impoundments are illegal to fish.

  9. Fishing will be done with rods and reels only. All fish must be caught on the day of the tournament. A net may be used to land fish into the boat or to catch bait. You may leave the boat to catch bait only. No fishing will be allowed from land.
  10. Any attempt to weigh in an illegal fish, presenting any fish with cuts or puncture wounds, judged by the tournament committee as having been inflicted in an attempt to gig or capture the fish, will immediately disqualify the participant from this and future tournaments.
  11. Only ONE fish per species per participant will be weighed. All fish will be measured in total length, PINCHED TAILS and their natural condition. The weigh master will conduct the weigh in and make all decisions concerning the legality of the submitted fish. Each participant is responsible for deciding which one fish of each species is to be for their entry
  12. All coolers and live wells are subject to inspection.
  13. All South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations apply to licensing and vessel operations. Anyone receiving a violation during the tournament hours is subject to disqualification. Unannounced visits or inspections by SCDNR officials may be expected at any time during the tournament, including the weigh-in.
  14. All protests must be presented to tournament officials within 5 minutes and will be acted on immediately. All decisions of the tournament committee are final.
